As Borneo Pearls has variuos sizes, colours and shape:
a. The more spherical (rounder) and synmetrical the pearls the more valuable it will be. Baraque pearls ( unusually shaped and asynmetrical pearls) can be very attractive and less expensive than the round pearls.
b. Colours available in a pinkish (called rose) , silvery white, creamy , gray and black. Colour enhancement is considered the norm for both coloured and white based pearls.
c. Generally , the larger the pearl , the more rare it is to find and more valuable.
There are 2 types of cultured pearls:-
a. Salt water pearls : formed in oyster
b. Fresh water pearls : formed in mussel
Cultured pearls and imitation Pearls (tooth test):
Simply rub the pearls lightly along the bitting edge of yourupper front teeth. If they feel gritty or sandy, they are cultured or natural pearls. If they feel smooth , they are probably imitations.
Pearl cleaning and storing
A wet soft cloth can be used to clean the pearls slighty. soft jewellery pouches or bags are good choice pearl storing.
